My name is Ben Murphy, and I am in the process of transitioning from the Coast Guard to the civilian world after serving for twenty-five years. I recently graduated with my bachelor’s degree in cinematography and am pursuing my Masters in New Media Journalism. I picked up a real camera a little over four years ago now and found that childlike passion that I once had for taking pictures. In doing so it awoken something in me and I had always planned on pursuing photojournalism. 

So begins this journey pursuing environmental journalism to assist in giving a voice to those that cannot speak for themselves, between the wildlife losing habitats and the forests being harvested without being replanted. For me the adage of a picture tells a thousand words rang true. In this case it gives me the opportunity to use still images, video, and the written word to be able to educate people and potentially influence policy makers to see a different side of the impact that we place on the environment and climate. 

As someone that has always had a passion and a drive to protect the environment for those in the future generations because they deserve to see the beauties just as much as we do. Through this blog I want to speak for not only large wildlife but also the small, as each of them deserve a fighting chance. This will also look at the impact of what is happening to their habitats and how that impacts the interactions between animals and humans. These impacts can be lessened with the write information and education.
