While Saint Ignace is a small town surrounded by two of the Great Lakes, it goes to sleep in the winter time. In May the tourism starts again and so do the concerns for the town and the environment. The cars file across the bridge adding more emissions to the atmosphere as they idle their way across the bridge. According to Catalyst Planet there is a turn towards more sustainable tourism, where there is less destruction and more care put into the environment in which they are visiting.

There are still certain towns that face those effects of over tourism. The aspect of over tourism can be seen in Saint Ignace as the trash piles up on sides of the roads and the damage is done to hiking and off-road trails.

Another aspect where these small town feel the strain of tourism is on the power grid and the draw of bandwidth that slows the entire towns internet down. Wussener and Gassner the draw of tourism on the internet happens worldwide and shows that it is not just broadband but mobile internet as well. This adds an additional strain to the environment as it puts additional strain on the power grid.

The larger the crowds of people the more damage that can be done. There are many events throughout the summer that are designed for economic growth, which is successful. However, the environmental impact swells.
